3rd Study Done Β Video/Action for Mio Ψ
[He doesn't like going on the network. Like, he really doesn't like going on the network. Unfortunately, he has to move past it right now because SCIENCE and also his munna is sick.
So when the feed starts, Reid (who is wearing HUGE glasses today) is sitting with his back against a tree, taking a break from all the traveling with Mio. Yang the Absol is curled up next to Reid's leg, staring at the communicator. In Reid's arms is the most sad-looking munna ever, and its face looked a little green. It's a sick, sad munna.]
Um, hi?
[Reid cradles Flora the munna carefully, readjusting the glasses on his nose.] Right. Uh, for those of you who don't know, I'm Dr. Spencer Reid. Not that--you don't have to call me that. Spencer or Reid will work fine.
[As you can probably tell, Reid is not good at talking to lots of strangers.]
It's come to my attention that no one's ever formally gathered data about arrivals and departures from this place, and in hopes of finding a pattern that could lead us to being able to better predict who might come and go, I put together a survey. The more people who contribute, the more useful the results will be, so any spare moment you could use to fill it out would be appreciated.
[He switches to text briefly to provide a link to the survey.]
This, um... isn't exactly my realm of expertise? That is, my specialty is largely theoretical and practical applications of knowledge, not setting up studies, and without any kind of possible beta testing, this study isn't exactly what I would call formal. So really, any suggestions on how to improve it or any help from people experienced with correlational studies would be helpful.
On a more personal note...
[He glances down, his glasses hiding his eyes, and he shifts so the munna is more visible on the screen. The poor thing looks utterly pathetic--she's not even hovering.]
Flora has been very sick since she hatched. Does anyone know what might be wrong with her?
[She'll tell you what's wrong with her. She's living off a steady diet of nothing but sleep terrors and nightmares. Reid, you really should see someone about that.]

The munna looks at her, then after a deep breath, lets out the saddest sound Reid's ever heard. And, well, it's a sound he can't decipher, but Fluttershy probably can.]
The dreams are awful. There's nothing nice about them. My tummy hurts, but there's nothing else to eat. My trainer's sleep is always so sad and scary, that I have to eat to let him sleep and I feel sick.
[Reid just looks concerned. Does he have any idea what the problem is? Hell no.]
video
[With conviction, she looks at Reid-]
Mister Human!
[... a.k.a Mister Human - ]
Munnas eat dreams more than normal food. But... your dreams are making her sick. You need to find more humans to stay with for a little while, until your dreams are better.
Private Video
Wait, she's been eating my dreams?
[...
...
JESUS.
NO WONDER SHE'S SICK.]
I, well, my dreams aren't--
[Fuck.
Give him a sec, he's slapping a goddamn filter on.]
I am staying with another human. [Her dreams really aren't any better, though.] And those dreams--they've sort of been around for a while? They're not going to get any better. Maybe when we get to Violet City, we can find someone else to trav--
[But then Flora cuts him off, making a sad wailing noise.] No other dreams! No other dreams! I want him to forget the ones he has! [Reid flinches even though he has no idea what she's saying, and he starts doing what he's been periodically doing since Flora hatched.
He glances around nervously, like someone more suited will come down and save him, and he awkwardly starts to rock her gently back and forth, rubbing circles into the base of what passes as her neck. The closest thing to a crying baby Pokemon he's dealt with is his crying godson, so he's just trying to do what the mother of his godson told him to do with crying children. Despite the fact he is clearly out of his element, Flora seems to be calming down a little bit.
Nonetheless, he looks at Fluttershy pleadingly. Help. He has no idea what to do.]
Private Video
Flora... Oh, no... She wants to eat your dreams so you can forget them... That's how sad they are... But it's because they're so sad, that they're making her sick... Flora, you're trying to help, and you're being very brave, but... you should know better than anyone that dreams don't change that easily...
[She sniffles, taking a moment to wipe away brimming tears with her over-sized sweater sleeve.]
Whatever Mister Human has gone through, it has to go away on its own, with talking, and comfort. And he won't find any comfort if you're sick. If you keep pushing yourself like this... you'll only hurt the both of you. Please...
Private Video
I--they're really not that bad. Honestly. [He is lying through his teeth.] I-it's fine! You don't need to cry...
[He turns the munna in his lap, looking down at Flora's big sad eyes and trying really hard to not stutter too much.] Listen, Flora... you just hatched, okay? You're still a baby. I'm a grown man. I'm fine. [He feels vaguely ridiculous, but he's starting to get used to that.] I can deal with it fine. Just--you concentrate on taking care of yourself, okay? W-we'll go to the PokeCenter and talk to a nurse about what to do. Until then, do your best to stick to solids.
[Flora makes a sad noise in the back of her throat.] Your dreams are horrible. I wanna help.
[Yang the Absol finally raises his head, giving a soft grunt.] You can't. Dreams are symptoms, not the disease. You're still too little. Eat my dreams for now. [Absol looks over at Fluttershy, hoping for some backup that can actually understand what the hell he's saying.]
Private Video
Mister Absol is right. Maybe when you get bigger and you're stronger, you can take on these dreams... But right now, you're still young. And it's okay. You have to take your time... It's very kind of you to want to help, and someday, you will. But for now... you should listen to Absol, and your human. They care about you too, and want to do what's best for you.
[She smiles sadly at everyone involved.]
It'll be all right... The best part about dreams is that they all end eventually... We always wake up. Mister Human might be sad when he sleeps... But every time he wakes up, it's a new opportunity for happiness.
Private Video
[Even Yang gives him a small glare for such a blatant lie, but Reid doesn't notice. Instead, Reid leans back to be able to talk face-to-face with Flora.] But she's right. Wait until you're older before you try things like that. It's okay for you to take care of yourself.
[...It's going to take a while before he's used to talking to a floating pig with a floral pattern on its side like she's just another human, but hell, he'll adapt.
Flora, for her part, is doing her best to pout. She's failing, but at least she's getting her thoughts on all this across.] The dreams are always so scary. You shouldn't remember. You need help. [But it seems like she'll reluctantly listen to what they're telling her. She'll probably just nibble on Reid's dreams instead of eat them all.]
Private Video
You're all very fortunate to have each other, and to be with others who care about each other so much. You have a very nice family. Maybe by the time you're all grown up and ready to handle his dreams, he'll be getting help! There's no need to rush, so you can both take it one step a time.
[So, yeah, she's not buying the 'not that bad' BS you keep spewing.]
Private Video
Also, c'mon, you can't even pretend to buy his BS?
Flora lets out a sad, somewhat grumpy sound, upset that she's actually agreeing to this, then she snuggles against Reid. Reid is able to handle the physical affectino easier when it comes from an animal instead of another person, so he starts rubbing the base of her 'neck' again before looking up at Fluttershy with a smile.]
Thank you. I don't know how you do that, but...
[He just gives another smile.] Thank you. And... I'm afraid I didn't catch your name?
Private Video
It's... no big deal... It's what I do back home too... And, um... My name is... Fluttershy...
Private Video
Well, I still think it's pretty amazing. You're good at it. [He gives a soft laugh, more from nervousness than anything. Yes, he's shy around the incredibly shy pink-haired girl.] Nice to meet you, Fluttershy. I'm Spencer. I mean, I've already said that, but... [Social awkwardness, get.]
Private Video
It's nice to meet you too, Mister Human... I mean Spencer... I mean... I-I love helping pokemon, so... so if your Pokemon need help, j-just call me! I'd do anything for them!
Private Video
That--that's really nice of you, Fluttershy. [Interesting name you got there, but hell, he's not going to comment.] I might need to take you up on the offer. I'm not--animals back home never liked me much. I don't exactly have much experience taking care of them?
You, uh, you kept calling me 'Mister Human'. Were you not human before you came here?
Private Video
We don't even have humans back home... I'm a Pegasus Pony. But... this place turns everypony - I mean, everyone - into a human when they arrive... For some reason... I don't really know...
Private Video
[...
...
...
...Nope, still not the weirdest thing he's heard this week.] You never saw a human before coming here? That must have... well, I would have been pretty scared if I ended up turning into something I've never seen before and everyone I met was one too.
Private Video
Private Video
...Is she a bookish girl with purple hair and eyes? [Because she introduced herself as Twilight, but he never heard anything about her being a unicorn.]
Private Video
Yes! She's the smartest pony ever! And one of my best, dearest friends.
Private Video
Well, she--yeah, yeah, I could tell she's very smart. She, uh, she helped me out when I first got here.
Private Video
Private Video
And you--you, uh, you seem like a kind person too. So birds of a feather.
Private Video
Oh... thank you very much.
Private Video
He gives a small smile, then averts his eyes to focus on the little piglet in his lap. It's weird that her being so shy simultaneously makes him feel a little more confident, but makes him act more shy. It's like he's compelled to imitate the mannerisms he most recognizes in himself--which is totally a common effect of--
wait, wait, he isn't in the middle of a profile, he's in the middle of a conversation.] Well, uh, thanks. Again. I'll... see you and Twilight around?
