3rd Study Done Β Video/Action for Mio Ψ

[He doesn't like going on the network. Like, he really doesn't like going on the network. Unfortunately, he has to move past it right now because SCIENCE and also his munna is sick.

So when the feed starts, Reid (who is wearing HUGE glasses today) is sitting with his back against a tree, taking a break from all the traveling with Mio. Yang the Absol is curled up next to Reid's leg, staring at the communicator. In Reid's arms is the most sad-looking munna ever, and its face looked a little green. It's a sick, sad munna.]

Um, hi?

[Reid cradles Flora the munna carefully, readjusting the glasses on his nose.] Right. Uh, for those of you who don't know, I'm Dr. Spencer Reid. Not that--you don't have to call me that. Spencer or Reid will work fine.

[As you can probably tell, Reid is not good at talking to lots of strangers.]

It's come to my attention that no one's ever formally gathered data about arrivals and departures from this place, and in hopes of finding a pattern that could lead us to being able to better predict who might come and go, I put together a survey. The more people who contribute, the more useful the results will be, so any spare moment you could use to fill it out would be appreciated.

[He switches to text briefly to provide a link to the survey.]

This, um... isn't exactly my realm of expertise? That is, my specialty is largely theoretical and practical applications of knowledge, not setting up studies, and without any kind of possible beta testing, this study isn't exactly what I would call formal. So really, any suggestions on how to improve it or any help from people experienced with correlational studies would be helpful.

On a more personal note...

[He glances down, his glasses hiding his eyes, and he shifts so the munna is more visible on the screen. The poor thing looks utterly pathetic--she's not even hovering.]

Flora has been very sick since she hatched. Does anyone know what might be wrong with her?

[She'll tell you what's wrong with her. She's living off a steady diet of nothing but sleep terrors and nightmares. Reid, you really should see someone about that.]

The reason he didn't opt for that LAST time was because he kind of had weird metal plates beneath his eyes and figured that wouldn't be anything Reid would be comfortable seeing. Today, however, they've more or less retreated completely. Just a few red dots if you look closely now. Isn't that comforting.]}

[He is much better, thank you. He still sometimes wonders if he's going to wake up in a mental institution at some point, but he's accepted that there might be a possibility of this being real.]

Some patterns are starting to rise, actually, but I'm waiting for a larger pool of data before I draw any conclusions.

[Reid smiles, pushing some hair from his face.] Y-yeah. I'm, uh, I'm glad I'm better too. [He thinks he knows your name since Gordon has mentioned you, but just in case...] I, uh, wasn't really in the right mind to be polite last time we talked. Sorry about that. My name is Spencer? [Yes, he's just said that, but he'd like to say it to you personally anyway.]

They, uh... well, Dr. Rosenfield helped me a lot when I first got here. [Albert is good people, as far as Reid's concerned. Even if he's abrasive.] Gordon was... very nice to talk to. [Also painful.] We spoke when my Absol accidentally turned on my communicator.

"Spoke" seems like an unusually kind term. Make no mistake, though, he's one of the best.

Is that your starter?

[Well, Reid is an unusually kind guy.]

Yang? [Yang looks up from his place next to Reid.] Y-yeah. Yeah, Yang's my starter. [Yep. The itty bitty FBI baby got the disaster Pokemon as a starter.]

Did you read up on them? Absols have quite the reputation.

_{[You'll get to hear his starter theory, most likely. Sharing notes. Being bros. And so on.]}

There wasn't extensive information on them in Cherrygrove, but a girl told me that they're known for being able to sense disasters before they strike.

[Broship and starter theory sounds cool. Those are things that would be awesome to do. B) ]

That's right. They were mistakenly thought to bring disasters for some time, while they in reality only sought to warn people about them. They're generally observant and intelligent but notably quiet and not seldom with a penchant for solitude.

Well... [...That's so goddamn creepy.] I'm sort of...

[He bites his lip, glancing down at Yang. Yang's staring at him expectantly. TELL HIM, REID.] ...You could say I have bad luck. But, but that's sort of to be expected in my job. It's dangerous by its nature. So, really, it's not that big of a deal as long as I'm careful. [Trying to downplay it so hard right now. Also, please don't notice him starting to rub his knee. All this sitting down and walking around is making it incredibly stiff and painful.]

_{[If you by that meant totally DO notice, then sure, absolutely. He'll just quietly observe that for a short moment - that, and the lip-biting, the hesitation in his speech, the choice of words.]}

Circumstance doesn't make a habit of respecting the measures we take to prevent it, Spencer.

...Yeah, I've sort of noticed. But consequences sometimes do. [Like not getting completely blown to pieces when a crazy guy set off a bomb because he had the forethought to run like hell. Or like not getting stabbed in the face when another crazy guy goes at you with a knife because you have a gun and like four other FBI agents with guns. Or like not getting shot because you thought to 'pretend' to have a migraine to confuse the hell out of the unsub long enough to smack him in the face with a pipe (okay okay that wasn't a measure to protect himself as much as it was just him being in pain but IT COUNTS). Seriously, when one considers the number of times he almost got mutilated or killed versus the number of times he's gotten shot or infected with anthrax or addicted to drugs, the ratio's pretty good.]

But it's... it's not a big deal, alright? It's just regular BAU things. Everyone's had their share of bad luck. I mean, I'm not the only one. [Reid can be a little stubborn about keeping his problems to himself. Which might be why his nightmares are so awful and Flora wants to die.]

_{[There's a hint of a smile when he nods again, but not a humorous one - more like he gets it and agrees with what he's saying. Coop's had his fair share of close calls as well, after all, and imagines he does understand what's being alluded to. If not by his own experience, then by having witnessed criminals get creative for a living.]}

I highly doubt anything within the BAU could be described as "regular".

_{[Not that he means to pry, for the record, but their line of work kind of encourages an interrogative line of speech, not to mention a curious disposition. Regardless of the topic, which to be fair looks like it's making Reid - if not uncomfortable, then perhaps defensive - but Coop's always had a knack for poking people to admit what's wrong, while being a hypocrite and never ever talking about his own problems.]

TOPIC CHANGE NOW] What did you have as a starter?

[Maybe Reid will be a little easier to coax into sharing if there's an in-person discussion and he's known Coop for a little longer. A big part of Reid's bad luck is the abuse and abandonment he's suffered from other people, so he's always very careful about who he gets close to and who he confides in.

But despite her trainer, Flora approves of any attempt to get Reid to talk, because WHOA NELLY does he need it. Yes, this will be a beautiful friendship indeed.]

[And hah, Coop raises his eyebrows subtly at TOPIC CHANGE INDEED, but he can take a hint and besides, this is still relevant to his original point, which got lost somewhere in the Reid-do-you-need-a-life-coach.]}

[Reid frowns, tilting his head back as he thinks. Well. Mio's starter was a ghost type, and she mentioned something about ghosts when she filled out the survey. His starter was an animal known for disaster.
