4th Pokémon Caught Γ Text/Action for Violet City Χ

Can anyone possibly give me advice on how to train a Misdreavus and a Litwick? I caught them recently, and I'm having trouble making them behave.

[And by that, he means that they keep trying to eat his soul when he's not paying attention and/or randomly screeching to scare people. That on top of a baby munna with separation anxiety is really making it hard to do anything. As he types, Flora is clinging to his head, Missy is being pinned by Yang, and Nate is in his ball because he wouldn't stop snacking on Reid.]

Advice on Ghost- and Psychic-types in general would be appreciated, actually. I never took care of animals at home, let alone animals that are capable of consuming emotions, so I'm a little out of my element.

Also, I wanted to thank everyone who tried to help Flora two weeks ago. She's doing much better now, and Nurse Joy thinks that she'll be just fine.

A few times. They seem to be more mischievous than other types, but they can still be good.

[Give him a second to get to his inn room, throw up a filter, and take out Nate the Litwick again.

Then he turns on video. Reid actually looks pretty tired, mainly because it's exhausting to have your soul snacked on. And Yang is holding a wiggling and protesting Misdreavus in his mouth. And Nate the Litwick's light seems to be growing a little as he nibbles on someone's soul. And Flora is still clinging.]

Please help?

[As far as Fluttershy's concerned, it's like dealing with a bunch of upset children. And thus, she treats them like children - not to mention ghosts tend to be mischievous, so they need discipline.]

All right, everypony - I mean everyone, that's enough! I want the ghost Pokemon front and center, because we need to have a talk. Your poor trainer has been through so much already, so please pay attention!

[Missy starts smacking Yang's nose.] Let me go! Let me go! The pink hair girl says so!

[Yang spits Missy out onto the bed.] You taste disgusting. You and Nate, up. [Yang pushes Nate and Missy forward with his nose, wincing back when he nearly burns himself on Nate.

Nate waves with a little stubby wax arm, his flame still burning.] You called?

[She clears her throat...]

My name is Fluttershy. I heard that you two are new to the team, so it's understandable you might be nervous and not get along right away. But you need to learn how to behave, and obey your trainer's commands. Look at him! It's like he hasn't had a peaceful day in... days!

[no offense, man.]

He wants to be your friend, and to take care of you, but he can't do that if he's going to collapse.

[Aw c'mon Fluttershy why you gotta be like that ;.;

Excuse him while he rubs the bridge of his nose. You know, it'd be nice if she at least pretended to buy his 'I'm totally fine no really' routine.]

I didn't ask anyone to take care of me! [Nate is a mouthy bastard. He wiggles in place, and then Yang gives him a warning bat with his paw.]

Stop eating him. Just because people can regenerate life force doesn't make it okay.

[Missy starts waving around her arms, ignoring Nate and Yang.] We're just having some fun! Nothing wrong with that. You should talk to Ms. Clingy up there--girl won't let him go.

[Flora crawls from Reid's head to his shoulder.] I can't help it if I'm the favorite.

Fun is fun, but there's a time and a place for fun. It shouldn't come at the expense of others.

[Seems like she'll have to address these problems, and Pokemon, one at a time.]

Nate, mister Reid chose you because he thinks you have so much potential. Don't you want to live up to that? You're disappointing him by taking so much life force all the time. You can do better than that. And you and I both know you don't need to eat that much all the time. You'll just become fat and lazy.

And Missy, Flora is like that because she genuinely wants to help mister Reid. He has bad dreams, and she wants to cure him. But if you keep trying to have fun and not think about the consequences, not only will you hurt others, you'll hurt yourself. No one will like you or respect you if you don't think about them, and that means they won't want to play with you.

[Missy waves her stubby arms indignantly.] I know he has bad dreams! He flails and cries and screams in his sleep about dead people! Everyone knows he has bad dreams! And Ms. Clingy doesn't help them, she just hugs his head all the time!

[Yang lets out a growling sound.] Am I the only one with any respect for his privacy?

[Missy waves him off.] And besides, I'm not hurting anyone. I'm just pulling some people's hair and screaming when they don't expect it and throwing rocks at them.

[Nate, for his part, looks very indignant.] I'm not gonna get fat! He has plenty, and I need to eat some time. The regular food is boring and tasteless.

[She takes pause for a moment, after hearing the nature of his dreams... but then swallows, determined to help.]

Missy, how can you think that doesn't hurt anyone? That's being incredibly selfish. I know you care about Mister Reid, but you're going to make his life even harder that way. Not just by Nate stealing more of his life force... but no one is going to want to hang around mister Reid if he has such a troublesome Pokemon. Don't you want him to have friends that can help him work through his problems? He'll have a much harder time if you keep acting that way.

And Nate, no one is saying you can't eat. You just need to balance it. Health is important for any Pokemon, and you're no exception. Sometimes you need to put the needs of others before yourself. And what you're both forgetting is that Reid is your friend AND trainer... If you don't watch out for his health and happiness, he may take you out of your Pokeballs less and less.

[Nate waves his stubby arms around.] I'm not hurting him! He just gets tired! I--

[Yang cuts in, jumping onto the bed and sitting on his haunches.] Would you ask Spencer to give us some privacy? He's just going to get embarrassed if he knows how much they're telling you.

[Missy pushes Yang's head.] It's not my fault he doesn't have a lot of friends. He's too shy and awkward.

[She frowns, but then nods.]

Mister Reid... I mean, Spencer? Would you mind if we all had some privacy? Yang here doesn't want to embarrass you, if that's all right.

[Okay, he might be blushing a little bit.] What are they saying to you? [Then he quickly puts up his hands.] Actually, don't answer that. I'll, uh, I'll wait outside? Yeah, I'll... do that.

[Oh boy, he's hoping that his Pokemon aren't blabbing about all his problems. Then he picks himself up and shuffles away, taking Flora with him because she still won't let him go. Yang jumps off the bed and makes sure that the door is shut.] That's better. Now you can respond freely without embarrassing him.

[She waves reid goodbye until he's out. Now it's back to serious mode.]

Listen, you two. You both have your own definitions of what hurts people, and what fun is. And they're both very selfish. That may have worked in the wild, but you are part of a team now! You have friends... they're like your family! And right now you're hurting your precious family!

There is such a thing as a wrong opinion, and you have them because you keep refusing to think about others. It's not about what YOU think of as hurting, but what others do! Haven't you ever stopped and thought about what others might think of hurting? If you don't, then why should anypony hold back on you?

[They are being scolded by a pink-haired whispering girl. This is their life right now.]

They're not my family! [Missy puts her 'hands' on what passes for hips.] And we never told anyone to hold back on us. He's the one who's all gentle and won't play jokes.

[Yang pads back, frowning at the ghosts.] His sense of humor doesn't involve laughing at pain.

But pain is funny!

[Nate looks very miffed about all this. He's really not a bad Litwick, so he might be feeling a little guilty when Fluttershy puts it that way.] I'm not hurting him... I mean, he probably likes having that big brain slow down sometimes.

[Well, at least she's getting through to one of them, so to Nate, she speaks gentler.]

But you don't know that for sure, Nate. It's nice that you want to help him, but you can't make assumptions. He's the one who asked the network if help us deal with you two... so he probably doesn't like being drained so much. I know you mean well, but you need to take it down a little.

[As for Missy, if she's gunna be a pain in the butt...]

And young lady, you think pain is funny? When was the last time you were hurt? Was anypony laughing then? Will anypony be laughing when you get hurt in the future?

[Give Nate a second to look down at the blanket, frowning. Missy will keep being a pain, though.] Everyone was laughing last time I hurt myself! Pain is funny! That's how--

Missy, do you know how you got your name? [Yang suddenly cuts in, giving Missy the most piercing glare yet.] Because Reid mentioned it when he was thinking of what to name you.

[Missy looks at Yang, frowning now.] I thought it was a really uncreative nickname for 'Misdreavus'.

[Yang shakes his head.] No. No, it's not. Missy is the name of a girl he helped save from being murdered. [Yang sits on his haunches again.] He's a good man. You're making things harder than they have to be.

[...Suddenly, Missy looks really, really uncomfortable. She glances over at Fluttershy, slowly hovering down onto the bed.] ...I didn't know that.

[Nor did Fluttershy. Her eyes widen, and she doesn't speak for a bit. Dreams about dead people, saving people from being murdered... just what in the world was Reid's home like?]

... Oh my goodness... What a brave man. And yet... he keeps saying he's okay, and tries not to bother anypony... He's so...

[welp, she's beginning to tear up.

[Not good, Fluttershy. Not good.

Also, this was why Yang told you to get Reid OUT of the room. He looks at Fluttershy calmly, entire demeanor stoic.] He doesn't like bothering people. He doesn't want to be seen as a victim. Apparently, he has to do a lot of things like that where he comes from.

[Nate's flame goes out immediately and he glances over at Yang, his eye wide.] Wait, then where did my name come from?

[Yang shakes his head.] He didn't say, but it's probably from somewhere similar.

[Missy sort of shrinks in place and looks down, running a stubby 'hand' over the circles around her 'neck.'] ...I'm sorry. Tell him I'm sorry when he comes back. I won't be bad anymore.

[She wipes her eyes, taking a moment to collect herself.]

Y-Yang is right... We have to respect Mister Reid. He's done this much to make sure people don't find out about what's happened to him... So we have to respect him, and not feel sorry for him. Now that you know... you have to be there for him and respect him.

Neither of you are bad Pokemon. You just made bad decisions. And he's definitely going to forgive you both, because he cares for you very much. Okay?

[Both Missy and Nate nod, looking down at the bed.] Okay.

[Nate rubs the back of his 'head' his lower lip stuck out a little.] We didn't mean to hurt anyone.

[Yang stands up again, satisfied that both Pokemon are suitably ashamed, and goes the the door to start pawing at it. Reid then opens the door, giving Yang a pet on the head before looking curiously at the communicator and his ghosts.] How's everything going in here?

[She takes a breath, and then smiles.]

Much better now, I think. Your Pokemon should get along with you much better... But I think Yang should get most of the credit for that. He's a good... communicator!

[yes, that's the word. sure.]

[He arches an eyebrow.] Really? [Then he looks down, smiles, and gives Yang another pet.] Well, I don't know what either of you said, but thanks.

[Missy and Nate both sheepishly hop off the bed, then walk/float to Reid, cuddling up to his legs.] Oh! [Reid winces in surprise, but then relaxes, kneeling down and lightly petting Missy's head.] It's okay, guys. It's alright.

Thank you, Fluttershy. Again.

That sounds good. And likewise, Fluttershy. I think I owe you twice over, now. [Yep, subtext flying over his head at the moment. He gives Fluttershy a big grin, his whole face lit up.] Tell me if you come near Violet City some time soon, okay?
