3rd Study Done Β Video/Action for Mio Ψ
[He doesn't like going on the network. Like, he really doesn't like going on the network. Unfortunately, he has to move past it right now because SCIENCE and also his munna is sick.
So when the feed starts, Reid (who is wearing HUGE glasses today) is sitting with his back against a tree, taking a break from all the traveling with Mio. Yang the Absol is curled up next to Reid's leg, staring at the communicator. In Reid's arms is the most sad-looking munna ever, and its face looked a little green. It's a sick, sad munna.]
Um, hi?
[Reid cradles Flora the munna carefully, readjusting the glasses on his nose.] Right. Uh, for those of you who don't know, I'm Dr. Spencer Reid. Not that--you don't have to call me that. Spencer or Reid will work fine.
[As you can probably tell, Reid is not good at talking to lots of strangers.]
It's come to my attention that no one's ever formally gathered data about arrivals and departures from this place, and in hopes of finding a pattern that could lead us to being able to better predict who might come and go, I put together a survey. The more people who contribute, the more useful the results will be, so any spare moment you could use to fill it out would be appreciated.
[He switches to text briefly to provide a link to the survey.]
This, um... isn't exactly my realm of expertise? That is, my specialty is largely theoretical and practical applications of knowledge, not setting up studies, and without any kind of possible beta testing, this study isn't exactly what I would call formal. So really, any suggestions on how to improve it or any help from people experienced with correlational studies would be helpful.
On a more personal note...
[He glances down, his glasses hiding his eyes, and he shifts so the munna is more visible on the screen. The poor thing looks utterly pathetic--she's not even hovering.]
Flora has been very sick since she hatched. Does anyone know what might be wrong with her?
[She'll tell you what's wrong with her. She's living off a steady diet of nothing but sleep terrors and nightmares. Reid, you really should see someone about that.]

[No, Reid. Stop. Don't question it.]
S-sure. Anything that could help.
[He moves so that Flora is closer to the camera. Sickest. Munna. Ever.]

HE IS SUDDENLY INTERESTED IN A PROFESSIONAL CAPACITY]
A survey? I must confess, I didn't consider putting forth one of these the last time I brought this subject up to the network.
[...though given that he was severely emotionally compromised at the time, who can blame him...]
I will admit, my areas of expertise are basically the same as yours, so I'm afraid I may not be the most help with improving it as a correlational study. I would, however, be fairly interested in seeing the results when you've gotten enough data.
[Reid runs a hand through his hair.]
It might take a while before I have enough results, because some of the questions do have the capacity of being personal, and there will be a bias within the pool of survey takers because I can only get a sampling from people who actually choose to take the survey, but this is the best we can do at the moment. Once I have a large amount of data, I'll give the results to whoever wants it.

[And some of those he'd rather die than answer truthfully, and lying wouldn't help. Darn.]
I can tell you that there was a change in the pattern of arrivals some time ago, though I cannot remember the exact moment. There used to be newcomers every week, but now the waves happen once every two weeks or so. I also remember a few weeks with no arrivals at all.
Really? So arrivals slowed down? [He frowns, putting a hand on his chin.] Do you remember roughly which month that was?

[Pause. Man, he never thought about that.] The survey is a good idea-- actually, I'd have never thought about it. [And he's the omnidisciplinary scientist too!]
If I may ask, what exact field do you work in?
voice;
[Reid frowns, fidgeting with his hands.] The only problem is that the pool of survey-takers will be very self-selecting, and therefore biased. There are a lot of people who won't want to answer those questions--I, I really don't blame them, because I wouldn't either--and that will probably lead to skewed data. [He gives a shrug. He figures that he's probably going to need to keep giving this link to people for a few months before he gets enough data to really compile.] But I guess that's better than no data at all.
I'm a, I'm a profiler? I work in the FBI to find criminals by making a hypothesis about how their minds work. But I have degrees in engineering, chemistry, and mathematics as well.

I've got a Musharna--the evolved form of a Munna--and Flora should be able to tell you what's wrong. They're Psychic types and can do telepathy.
[Well, that'll be useful in the future. Reid gestures to the sick Flora, his brow furrowed.]
I mean, she's only a few days old, and she's been sick the whole time. I don't think she's figured out how to do that yet.

[And he would normally tell Nobita about the difference between sex and gender, but he's kind of busy cradling a sick Pokemon and keeping up with all the responses to his inquiry.]
I, uh, I know what the problem is now. Thank you, but I can handle it from here.

It looks like you've gotten a lot of help on that poor Munna... was anyone able to give you an answer you could use?
Reid looks a little uncomfortable, because apparently, by showing a sick munna, he has broadcasted the fact that he has nightmares to the world. Oops.] Uh, yes, actually. She, um, isn't eating well? I can't do much about it until we get to Violet, but... well, I know what the problem is.
[He pets Flora's head absently.] And now I know to train her to stop eating things that she shouldn't.

[Well, he's certainly smirking enough, though it's not an unpleasant expression. He's not exactly in the practice of genuine smiling.]
I spent quite some time attempting to analyze patterns regarding those who are brought to this world, for several months after my own arrival; I can't say I found anything of value. Though I must admit that I'm not a professional in this sort of field; perhaps you'll see something I didn't.
[Reid perks up a little at the mention of patterns, though.] Oh, anything could be significant, really. If you could share your observations, they could be really helpful.

How's Flora? Did you get anything that'd help?
Action
[Filling it out would be helpful, yeah. He doesn't know everything about you.]
Well, I found out what the problem is. [He purses his lips, looking down at the munna and avoiding looking at Mio.] Turns out munnas eat people's dreams.

Actually, turns out that she just isn't eating well. [And by that, he means that she's been munching on nightmares born from nine years in the most intense job imaginable.] I'll ask a professional about it when I get to town.

I haven't been able to find a pattern to the workings of this place yet, but I'll wish you the best of luck.
[No sarcasm there. It would probably be good to get a new take on it. Also, hi, by the way; video this time. The reason he didn't opt for that LAST time was because he kind of had weird metal plates beneath his eyes and figured that wouldn't be anything Reid would be comfortable seeing. Today, however, they've more or less retreated completely. Just a few red dots if you look closely now. Isn't that comforting.]
I will also note that I'm glad to see you're looking better.

Some patterns are starting to rise, actually, but I'm waiting for a larger pool of data before I draw any conclusions.
[Reid smiles, pushing some hair from his face.] Y-yeah. I'm, uh, I'm glad I'm better too. [He thinks he knows your name since Gordon has mentioned you, but just in case...] I, uh, wasn't really in the right mind to be polite last time we talked. Sorry about that. My name is Spencer? [Yes, he's just said that, but he'd like to say it to you personally anyway.]

... Not to clip your wings or anything, but people have been trying to figure that out for years, with no result. I don't think there is any pattern to be found...
[Although, to be honest, he's been noticing some things, such as his two best friends from home usually coming and going at the same time... but that no longer applies.]
As for your Pokémon, you might have better luck asking Nurse Joy... she'll probably know what to do.
The only time there is ever true randomness is at the atomic scale. Anything bigger than that follows rules--one can even predict which way dice will fall if they know everything about the arc they're thrown in, their acceleration, their weight and distribution thereof, the texture and levelness of the surface they are falling on, and any other variable involved with the function. Therefore, there has to be a pattern that decides who comes here and when. Whether we have the resources to find that pattern is another matter entirely...
[Oh oops he babbled didn't he] Yeah, I'm taking her to the center in Violet. I'm sure the nurse will have advice about what to do.

[There's clicks as she speaks-- she's scrollin' through it.]
Cool.
About the Pokemon, though... thaaaat's not normal, I don't think... what've you been feeding her?
[She doesn't know much about Munnas so heck for all she knows, maybe it IS normal, but poor little guy.]
[Audio] That's fine! \o/
[Reid is partially glad that so few people know that munnas eat dreams, and partially not because then he has to try to dodge the question.] I actually found out what's wrong with her. She wasn't eating well, and someone who could... well, talk to animals told me. I'm going to make sure she's eating right now.
...I'm sorry, but what is your name? I don't think I was exactly in the right mind to ask last time. [He sounds vaguely sheepish. He broadcasted his freak out over a whole network of people. Oops.]
